Antonio Gades has given Spanish dance a universal style characterized by a great expressive capacity. This allowed him to travel around the world presenting the great classics of literature in the form of dance, such as Bodas de Sangre inspired by the drama of the same name by Federico Garcia Lorca, Fuenteovejuna from the homonymous work of Lope de Vega or Carmen together with Carlos Saura. The latter in particular helped create the myth of Gades in the world. The ballet Fuego tells the story of Candela, a young gypsy girl in love with Carmelo and tormented by the spirit of her previous husband, who died stabbed in a duel, and who appears to her like a ghost every night forcing her to dance. A witch advises the couple to dance “La Danza del Fuego”, to free themselves from the spectre that creeps into their love.
