The synergy continues with the Conservatory of Ferrara, which presents on stage at the Teatro Comunale Il Campanello by Gaetano Donizetti, with a cast formed entirely by students of Frescobaldi. Friday 19 (for schools) and Saturday 20 May the opera buffa will be staged by director Giovanni Dispenza. The Orchestra of the Frescobaldi Conservatory of Ferrara is directed by Marco Titotto.
Opera buffa in one act, also known as Il campanello di notte and Il campanello dello speziale, Il campanello was first performed at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples in 1836. The libretto, by Donizetti himself, is based on a vaudeville performed in Paris only a few months before and bears witness to the legendary speed of the composer who wrote the opera in eight days, to meet the requests of the impresario Filippo Pellegrino. The success of the farce raised the economic difficulties of the Teatro Nuovo and after this staging, which contained dialogues spoken in Neapolitan, Donizetti added the recitatives in Italian with the help of Salvatore Cammarano, with whom he had collaborated the year before for Lucia di Lammermoor.
