Europeana is a succession of remnants, shreds, flashes from twentieth-century European history. It is a bounce of news far and wide for a century, more than short, dense: enthusiasm, tragedies, outbursts, atrocities, sarcasm, passions and wars. Europeana seems a whirlwind of contradictions: perhaps this was the twentieth century, of which we still bear the marks. Prague-born and Parisian-adopted writer Patrik Ouředník has gathered that whirlwind of voices, follies and aspirations as from a distant civilization, and has brought them together in one breath. It ends up being a story of a thousand stories, in which Lino Guanciale throws us, wrapped by musical fragments of the Slovenian accordionist Marko Hatlak.

Piero Calamandrei said that if one wants to understand where the Constitution was born he must go to the mountains where the partisans fought. We must never forget the value of democracy. That is why I particularly care about this project of mine. In sixty pages Europeana summarizes in figures and historiography with a caustic touch the history of the twentieth century».
