DON CHISCIOTTE

Back in Ferrara the company ArrondiArt Ukrainian Classical Ballet, which brings together dancers from different major theaters of Ukraine, Friday 3 and Saturday 4 March, with the ballet Don Quixote to a libretto by Miguel de Cervantes, music by Léon Minkus and choreography by Alexandre Gorski, Marius Petipa and Victor Litvinov. Soloists will be back on stage – among them the already applauded Olga Golitsya and Ivan Zhuravlov – and the dancers of the Ukrainian company welcomed this year a few days after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

The plot is based on the Spanish novel written by Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote de la Mancha, and tells the story of a rich man, Gamache, who tries in vain to marry the beautiful Kitri in love with Basil, who is disliked by her father. For this reason, Kitri and Basil decide to escape and organize a party in a cave, where Kitri’s father manages to find them.
At this point, the shrewd Basil pretends to be dying and to want to marry Kitri as his last wish. Her father, moved by the boy’s condition, decides to consent, but once the young people are married, Basil gets up, proud of his deception, and everyone celebrates by dancing.
