Platonov – one of Anton Chechov’s first texts – expresses the urgency to put life ‘on stage’, and at the same time the impossibility of telling it in a theatrical text. The result is a large unfinished fresco of the human soul: the existences of men and women made fragile by their “wanting to be”, which clash with what they are in real life.
