We bring on stage all the vitality and fun of comedy, the understanding that the author shows for man – of which he portrays with subtlety the virtues and dark sides – his visceral love for theater, for writing, for actors, on whose potential he built universal characters. The protagonist of this wonderful text is a microcosm of people gravitating in a Venetian square. Don Marzio – the Neapolitan nobleman who observes this small world sitting at the cafe and maliciously intrigues its destinies – is interpreted by the talented and charismatic Michele Placido. All important figures surround him, each ambiguous and interesting: a chorus in which the play finds the fulcrum of its impeccable mechanism, which imprints swirling rhythms to the interactions between the characters. What’s going on? Nothing sensational: someone is ruined at the game, two lovers meet and forgive each other, some dreams is broken, but above all they gossip. It is Venice – as Don Marzio says – a country in which everyone lives well, everyone enjoys freedom, peace, fun».
