51 years after the debut, “Il Mistero Buffo” by Dario Fo and Franca Rame is back on stage. Mistero Buffo is an extraordinary comic-dramatic mixture whose roots lie in popular theatre, that of medieval sacred representations (called mysteries), jesters and ‘commedia dell’arte’. It was May 30th, 1969 when Dario Fo entered, with Franca Rame, in the Lecture Hall of the Statale of Milan School during an assembly organized by the students to stage this text in an absolutely experimental premiere, which brought to the fore an archive of chronicles and stories drawn from sacred and secular texts reread in a satirical-grotesque key. Since then, the show has been re-proposed in over 5000 productions in Italy and abroad, in squares, schools, factories, theatres, and even in churches.
Today the actors Mario Pirovano and Lucia Vasini, both with a wealth of experience of the Fo – Rame repertoire, bring the Mistero Buffo back on stage as a paso doble to still remember the greatness of the theatre of Dario Fo and Franca Rame and make it live again today. For this occasion, a new staging is presented to the public, aimed at paying homage to the authors of the show, to celebrate the greatness of this text, trying to reread it in a key that transports it to the present day, using as a means, the wonderful invention of the prologues which Dario Fo inserted before the chosen monologues. The discovery of the Grammelot and the music of the repertoire of the Fo- Rame Theatre Company will accompany the spectator on this journey. The performance will be staged for the first time under the patronage of the Fo Rame Foundation.
