The Taming of the Shrew, is one of Shakespeare’s earliest comedies, perhaps the most convoluted and twisted and certainly the most controversial. A comedy that despite itself makes us laugh, filled with atrocities and bizarre relationships, where love is not love but veiled gain and fiction is one of the most important ingredients; in short, a complex challenge that led us to choose the Elizabethan game of disguise, as it provides a good idea of distorted relationships and “wild” hearts needing to be tamed. Yet are we so sure that it is only the heart of Caterina, the shrew, which needs to be tamed?
